National Languages Accounting Experts Sharpen Skills

A five-day workshop began yesterday, October 12, 2015 in Yaounde on budget and finance management.

Focal points and accountants for the National Languages Initiative in Africa (Elan-Afrique) from France, West and Central Africa yesterday October 12, 2015 in Yaounde through a workshop began upgrading their skills on budgetary and finance management of the programme. The workshop is organised by the Ministry of Basic Education in collaboration with La Francophonie.

While opening the workshop, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim said there is need for transparency in the use of funds disbursed to implement the Elan-Afrique programme in primary schools in Africa. As such, participants at the workshop should redouble their efforts to gain skills which will facilitate and improve account management of these funds thereby avoiding errors.

Given that the programme is aimed at conserving the cultural identity of individuals, through the teaching of a second national language besides the French language, Youssouf Hadidja Alim said there is need for rigorous ways to ensure management of finances.

The Deputy Director of Finance and Budget at La Francophonie, Nicodeme Adzra said the workshop is an occasion to evaluate how the fund put in place by Francophonie to implement (Elan-Afrique) was used during the first phase of the project, review the procedure through which experts have used to manage funds from La Francophonie and how to prepare future account reports put at their disposal using the computer software programme, “Excel”.
