Bonaberi: Student Stabbed in Lycée Polyvalent

Ndema, who was knifed twice in the back, had a successful surgery at the Laquintinie hospital Tuesday.

Total confusion reigned at Lycée Polyvalent Bonaberi on Tuesday October 13, starting with panic prompted by a student who secretly put “mintumba” tied with cable in a teacher’s bag. It was mistaken for a bomb and a student was stabbed by another.

As the story goes, Edimo, a student in Première D3 jokily seized the purse of a female student, Nganjo Nano, to provoke her follow him to his friend who wanted to have a moment of discussion with her. Nganjo Nano, who did not want to talk with the boy reported to one of the Association Presidents on campus who immediately went to Edimo asking him to hand over the purse. Though he handed the purse later, the President of the association and his group claimed FCFA 10,000 is missing from the purse. The confusion that started on Monday, October 12 degenerated to an open confrontation between the Association President’s camp and Edimo’s camp that lead to the stabbing of Ndema by a certain Ndende.

According to the Principal of the Institution, Ndende who was brutalised by the Association President’s group, though acting in self defence, should have reported the problem to school authorities rather than using a knife on a fellow student. In addition to Ndende, three other students including the Association President, Edimo and Doukoua have been detained in the Gendarmerie Brigade N°1 in Bonaberi for questioning while the victim, Ndema underwent a successful surgery at the Laquintinie hospital.

Earlier, panic gripped the school with a population of over 4,000 students after a student carefully planted “mintumba” (cooked cassava paste) wrapped with cable, enclosed in a black plastic wrapping in a teacher’s bag. Information from the secretariat of the Principal of Lycée Polyvalent Bonaberi said it took courage for the plastic to be untied only to discover that it was “mintumba.”
