EPC Moderator Urges Return To Biblical Values

Rev. Bessong Armour Beke was on a pastoral visit to the Babimbi Synod recently.

The Moderator of the 58th General Assembly of the Eglise Presbyterienne Camerounaise, EPC, who has been at the helm since January 2015, has called on the church to return to the basics of the Bible. Rev. Bessong Armour Beke was speaking recently during a worship service at the Sombol-Nyambe Parish in Ndog-bong, Douala. The service marked the end of his three-day pastoral visit to the Babimbi Synod.

In his sermon from Matthew 22:1-14, the Moderator exhorted Christians to ensure peace, unity and a new deal in their relationship with God. He pointed out that the new deal vision seeks to get the church back to its roots. “We must return to the Bible, which is the word of God. It provides guidelines on leadership.” Allusion was also made to churches that teach values that are against God and want African churches to embrace them.

“God says a man will leave his parents and take his wife, but they teach that a man will leave his parents and take another man. This is not Biblical. I want EPC to obey God only and live according to the Bible. I have told the Synod, presbyteries and parishes to belong to the great family of God and obey its values that are ordained for eternity,” Rev. Bessong Armour Beke noted.

Elder Dieudonné Bernard Kith, Moderator of the Babimbi Synod, who doubles as the Vice Moderator of the 58th General Assembly, revealed that the task of the Babimbi Synod with 58 parishes, will be to seek justice, peace, faith, fraternity and goodness. According to Elder Bassong Lucien, the Moderator’s visit was a rare moment of joy.
