Sports Federations Granted Subventions

The subventions were granted by Minsep in ceremony on Saturday in Yaounde.

The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education on Saturday, October 31st, offered subventions to sports federations in the country for the 2015-2016 sports season. Speaking during the ceremony which took place at the Yaounde sports complex, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt said the award of the subventions was recognition of the sacrifices made by the different federations to enhance the development of their respective sports disciplines saying government will always come to their help.

He announced that convention on objectives will be signed with sports federations in view of ameliorating the quality of collaboration between the ministry and federations. He urged federation heads to furnish yearly report of activities so as to make their actions known and to use the money given them judiciously respecting the principles of accountability and transparency.

The subvention award ceremony was also marked by a speech from the director of the department of norms and monitoring of sports federations, Blaise Omgbwa who painted a bleak image of sports federations in Cameroon which he said was characterised by amateurism, poor management, intestinal fighting and low level of activity owing to the lack of financing means and clairvoyance from the leaders.

The ceremony was graced by a presentation from Gue Gue Gue International dwelling on the theme of lack of visibility of some sports federations. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the victims of the Boko Haram mayhem in Cameroon and the Cameroonians who lost their lives in the stampede in Mecca.
