Minister Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa on Sunday November 29, 2015 presented a draft budget of FCFA 6.8 billion at the National Assembly.
The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family plans to function with a budget of FCFA 6,888,000,000 in the 2016. The draft budget was presented on November 29, 2015 to the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly by the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa.
The proposed budget, which has witnessed a 21 per cent increase to that of last year, will be geared towards the empowerment of women and gender promotion, family development and protection of children’s rights and institutional development and governance. The National Gender Policy is expected to be popularised and implemented, advocacy to fight all forms of violence against women and harmful socio-cultural practices as well as capacity- building amongst others are earmarked.
In effect, Minster Abena Ondoa stated that the ministry is targeting 150,000 women and girls whose situation would be improved while 85 percent of families will be stabilised up from 70 per cent in 2014. There are also plans to construct more Women Empowerment Centres, refurbish and equip structures of the ministry in 2016.
