Samba-Panza Mobilises Population For Elections

She says it is time the country gets elected and legitimate institutions.

The transition President of the Central African Republic, Catherine Samba-Panza has called on the citizens to use the opportunity of the December 27, 2015 presidential and legislative elections to guarantee the return of peace and stability in the Central African Republic by  endowing  the country with elected and legitimate institutions.

Samba-Panza made the call on December 1, 2015 in the capital Bangui as she chaired commemorative activities that marked the 57th anniversary of the proclamation of the Central African Republic. She said the visit of Pope Francis last weekend could contribute to the holding of appeased, transparent and credible elections.

The transition President stated that the citizens were living in hope of a return to lasting security throughout the country; the organization of free, transparent and democratic elections and finally, they hope for a return to constitutional order with elected leaders presiding at the destiny of the State and ensuring their daily wellbeing. She said that despite the determination of a minority being extremists who have chosen violence and terror as the only way of acceding to power, it was important to go to the polls.

The December 27, 2015 legislative and presidential elections and a possible second round of the presidential election on January 31, 2016, will be taking place after several postponements. Samba-Panza used the occasion to extend gratitude to Heads of State and delegation of  the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS)  for giving the transition government a technical extension  and for  adhering  to the electoral calendar established by the National Elections Authority.

She presented a balance sheet of her stewardship since January 2014 and called on citizens to take advantage of the trust bestowed on them by friendly countries through different initiatives.
