Shumas Hailed For Community Development Services

Conceived and launched years ago to improve lives, reduce poverty and empower people so that they can meet their needs ...

The Strategic Humanitarians Services (SHUMAS) has restructured its Board of Trustees to better serve  the poor, needy and vulnerable communities of Cameroon. A new chapter opened for the organization on November 28, 2015 when the North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique commissioned their enlarged Board which showcases merit, regional balance, gender and commitment to stand by the vision and mission of Shumas.7

It was against this backdrop that governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique hailed Shumas for emerging as a credible partner that has made its mark in accompanying Cameroon towards emergence. He recognized expertise in members of the new board of Trustees and challenged them to help Shumas to reach out to more needy communities.

Setting the tone for the event, the Board Chairman, Rev. Fr.Zephyrinus Yem Mbuh paid tribute to the initiators and partners of Shumas who today, showcase relevant programs and projects for the welfare of the poor, needy and vulnerable children and communities of the nation’s ten regions. It was also a moment for the Board Chairman to acknowledge the privileged position of Shumas, viz a viz the government. He saluted the governor for standing by Shumas during some difficult moments and facilitating the clearance of health equipment through customs destined for rural community health centers.

In effect, Shumas takes credit for the indiscriminate and massive construction of over 500 classrooms in primary and secondary schools hitherto, in a dilapidating state. In all  the schools constructed and freely handed over to the communities, Shumas also provides toilets, benches, chairs, toilets, hand washing facilities, portable water and a functional environmental  project.

Among the lot of its components, Shumas also incorporates life skill training to formal education to multiply chances of children  gaining self employment after school in some rural primary schools. They also run a developed Resource and vocational rehabilitation Center for people with special needs, provides scholarships to children, operates a mental health center and supports rural community health centers.
