A new executive was elected during The third Ordinary Congress of the party that held in Yaounde from 10 to 12 December, 2015.
The three-day Third Ordinary Congress of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (APF) party ended in the conference hall of the Pope John XXIII Centre in Yaounde on December 12, 2015 with a “historical moment”; the replacement of Barrister Bernard Muna as Chairperson of the party by Alice Sadio. The newly-elected executive headed by the outgoing Secretary General, Alice Sadio, was commissioned with the outgoing Chairperson promising not to exert any form of influence on the new leadership.
Acknowledging the outcome of the congress, Bernard Muna hailed the party’s women and youths for emerging unto key leadership positions after the elections. “We want the youths to start leading. It is their duty to seize the opportunity. Youths and women must have their place in this country,” said Ben Muna, who was barred by statutes of the party from seeking a third term. He refused the possibility of any post of honorary president, saying the concept was outdated. “I do not want to be the backseat driver of the APF party. You will make mistakes but you are in the process of learning. Do not fear,” he assured the new leadership of the party. Representatives of other parties attending the closing ceremony were reminded that APF’s doors remained open for parties which want to join their fold, in line with the party’s spirit since its first congress in 2007.
