FCFA 4.5 Billion For 375 PNDP Dev't Projects In North West

PNDP investments enhance local development with water points, bridges, classrooms, capacity building to show in the North West between 2012 and 2015.

Five years after taking root in the North West Region, the population has started counting the blessings of phase II of the National Community  Driven Development  Program (PNDP) with some 188.694 people emerging as direct beneficiaries of 275 water points, 165 latrines, 98 classrooms with 16.542 pupils, income generating stores at the service of 138.410 people, six bridges and 17 culverts to facilitate movement for 19.162 people, construction and rehabilitation of 10.1 km rural roads, 26.22km of low and average tension electrical cables installed to serve 25.442 people, 54 projects in the areas of farm to market roads, markets and bridges to disenclave agricultural zones, plus several capacity building workshops for council Executives.  It is against this backdrop that the Inspector General at the North West Governor’s Office, Ivo Makoge announced the approval of phase III of the program on November 11, 2015.

The crucial role of PNDP in the development of the region was stressed during a PNDP event that drilled stakeholders on council development plans and council budget preparation. It was all about empowering participants to produce realistic and comprehensive council budgets, effective and sustainable strategies for council development plans. The Regional Coordinator of PNDP, Nkanjo Bruno Daniel revealed that all 34 North West councils have benefitted some 375 PNDP micro projects worth FCFA 4.54 billion the domains of education, sanitation, electricity and farm-to-market roads during phase II. The facility has equally invested in the reinforcement of the capacities of council executive who are key actors in the decentralization process. The November 11-13, 2015 workshop in Bambui, Tubah Sub division featured presentations on the relationship between the council development plan and elaboration of council budget, execution of development plans, follow-up of projects, communication, conditions for council projects during phase III of PNDP and the MINATD circular on council budget preparation and execution.

The PNDP is a frontline partner in Cameroon’s decentralization process. Conceived and launched in 2004 to improve livelihoods in rural areas the World Bank and the French Debt Reduction Development Programme (CD2) of the French Development Agency are funding partners.
