Sacks Of Marijuana Impounded In Kumba

The seizure was effected by the police on December 17, 2015 on the Kumba-Buea highway.

Tekwi Julius Mukum, a taxi driver in Kumba, in Meme Division of the South West Region, was on December 17, 2015, arrested with four and half sacks of Cannabis Sativa, also known as marijuana. The arrest was made by Commissioner Wilson Elong Njume and his men from the Kumba Central Police Station. The policemen were on routine patrol on the Kumba-Buea highway.

According to the investigator, Josephine Mafoche Pezuh, when the police flagged down the taxi at about 7:30 am, the driver refused to break and instead drove into the bush. The Toyota Corolla with registration number SW 155 AD, is owned by Ambe George Che. Suspecting that something was wrong, the police pursued the driver and found the car already parked in the bush. He was arrested and taken to the police station.

While at the station, the sacks were opened and the content discovered, but Tekwi Julius Mukum claimed they belonged to a certain Gilbert. The suspect alleged that Gilbert called him on phone that morning to come and transport the sacks to the main entrance to Kumba Main Market. He said Gilbert, who has been his neighbor for four years at Limumba Street, Kumba, fled when he saw the police.

Quizzed to know where the sacks of marijuana originated from, Tekwi said he collected them near the entrance to Baptist High School, Buea Road, Kumba. The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme, Koulbout Aman David, after visiting the police station, lauded the initiative of the Commissioner Wilson Elong and his men. He urged them to continue in the same spirit as residents of the town get set for the Christmas and New Year festivities. He called on the public to remain vigilant and report such cases to security forces.

The Senior State Counsel for Meme Division, Justice Affa Emmanuel Annah, said marijuana was the key contributor to crimes in society today. He promised that the sacks will be taken to a qualified laboratory for the product to be tested if it is truly marijuana. If this is the case, the suspect will be sent to court without any further delay. Justice Affa Emmanuel called on the Central Police Commissioner to continue with the same good job to drastically reduce the crime wave in the city of Kumba. He urged the people to collaborate with security forces to ensure maximum security.
