The equipment is the first fallouts of the four-year contract with the sports equipment company, Garman.
The Professional Football League (LFPC) in a public ceremony in Yaounde on Tuesday December 22nd offered equipment to some 34 clubs of the League One and Two championships. The equipment which comprised travelling bags, jerseys, track suits, boots, shin guards, balls and other training equipment is the first fallout from the contract signed nine months ago with the Italian sports equipment company, Garman. Each club received 35 kits, 30 kits for the players and five kits for the technical staff of the club.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, the president of the Professional Football League, General Pierre Semengue said he was elated since Garman has honoured its engagement despite initial doubts from sceptics as to whether the contract will ever come to fruition. He said the donation of the equipment puts an end to the deficiency of playing and training equipment for football clubs in the elite championships in Cameroon and at the same time opens a new vista of possibility for development of professional football in Cameroon through partnerships with sponsors especially with the special incentives inscribed in the finance law to this effect.
The representation of Garman said the jerseys are of good quality as they absorb sweat and are difficult to tear and were tailored to match the colours of each club. He announced that the president of Garman will be visiting Cameroon to watch a League one match. The president of the association of League One and Two clubs, Onambele Zibi expressed gratitude for the equipment received on behalf of his colleagues. According to the terms of the contract, Garman is also expected to organise matches between Italian and Cameroonian clubs as well as sponsor the super league cup.
