Douala Agro-pastoral Show: Visitors Appreciate Price Reductions

The Permanent Secretary in the Littoral Governor’s office handed prizes at the end of the three-day event.

Curtains recently dropped on the Mini Agro-pastoral Show in Bepanda, Douala with thousands of visitors to the exhibition going home smiling, following reductions in prices of some commodities. Some 240 metric tonnes of foodstuff were on sale, including agricultural, livestock and fishery products.

According to the Littoral Regional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bell Nyem Jean Marie, the turnout was impressive. “We invited 290 producer associations and received 330. Also, prices of commodities were affordable to encourage farmers to produce more. We gave out 200 prizes donated by government and its partners, including water tanks for irrigation, wheel barrows, fertilizers, cutlasses, among others,” Bell Nyem explained.

At the end of the agro-pastoral show, the Permanent Secretary in the Littoral Governor’s office, Ludovic Ngbwa, congratulated producers for alleviating the high living cost of living. While handing over the prizes, he enjoined farmers to be more competitive and productive in order to ensure food security in the region and the nation at large. Agbor Celine, a visitor to the fair, bought a bunch of plantain at 3,500 FCFA, instead of 5,000 FCFA.

Makai Iréne got a heap of seven huge tubers of yam at 7,000 FCFA, which would normally go for 10,000 FCFA. Ewoudio Jacqueline, a plantain exhibitor at the mini agro-pastoral show, was able to get 5 kgs of spaghetti at 4,000 FCFA, instead of 4,500 FCFA.
