The Minister of Secondary Education went out to ensure the effective start of classes for the Second Term.
The second and most decisive term of the 2015-2016 academic year officially kicked off yesterday, January 4, 2015, in the country after the Christmas break. After two weeks of rest and feasting, secondary school students returned to class for the Second Term. In order to ensure effective take-off of classes and to encourage students, the Minister of Secondary Education, Ngalle Bibehe Jean Ernest Massena, visited some schools in Yaounde yesterday, January 4, 2015. He was accompanied by Boniface Bayaola, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Secondary Education in charge of Teacher Training.
Speaking to journalists after, Minister Ngalle Bibehe expressed satisfaction with the effective resumption of classes and also hailed teachers for their determination and willingness to work harder. He called on teachers to encourage children to work harder, especially as this is a decisive term. Concerning overcrowding in some schools, he expressed hope that progressively, schools will be able to respect standards.
In all the schools visited in Yaounde, the Minster had brief meetings with officials and also met students in class. Minister Bibehe was at CETIC Charles Atangana, Bastos, Government Bilingual High School, Nkol-Eton, Government Girls’ Technical College, Ngoa-Ekelle, Government Teachers’ Training College, Nlongkak and Government Technical High School, Nsam. The latter has been operating from the campus of Government Bilingual Teachers’ Training College, Nlongkak for the past 25 years.
The second term is the most decisive in the academic year, thus it will take good judgment for students to sail through. During this term, students will also be involved in extra-curricular activities in preparation for the 50th National Youth Day celebrations. These include sports, cultural activities and march past rehearsals, among others. Students are therefore expected to work hard to be able to face the task ahead.
