Youssouf Adidja Inspects Schools In Yaounde

The Minister of Basic Education toured some schools in the capital on January 4, 2016, to ensure that classes were effectively holding.


The Second Term of the 2015/2016 academic is on in the country, with reopening in nursery and elementary schools having taken place on Monday, January 4, 2016. In order to ensure that the first day of school went well, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Adidja Alim, visited some schools in Yaounde in the company of the Secretary General in the ministry, Bisse Bea.

During the tour, the Minister, crosschecked the number of children and teachers present, the cleanliness of classrooms and surroundings, and the level of security on campuses. School officials explained why some teachers were absent. Youssouf Adidja Alim also made phone calls to some regions to find out what was happening. At the end of the day, reports from all regions said the reopening was without any major incident in nursery and primary schools.

Speaking at the end of the tour, the Minister expressed satisfaction with what she saw and heard from the rest of the country. “Given that the Second Term is so decisive because the course work ought to be finished, it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to put hands on deck to ensure success. Children cannot be expected to do better if not given the necessary support by their teachers,” Youssouf Adidja Alim pointed out.

Among the schools visited were Government School, Kondengui, Ecole les Cherubins, Rue CEPER, Elig-Essono, Ecole Franco-Islamique, Tsinga, Ecole privé la Retraite in downtown Yaounde and Government Nursery and Primary Schools, Gendarmerie Barracks, Ngoa-Ekelle.
