Its members had discussions with Orange Managing Director last week in Yaounde. 

Cameroonian-born Vice President of the International Francophone Press Union (UPF) and President of the Cameroon’s Section of UPF, Aime Robert Bihina last Thursday, January14, 2016 in Yaounde gave an opportunity for the association’s members to have a better understanding of some of the services provided by mobile telephone networks that can be beneficiary for the growth of the country’s economy. This was during the 11^th edition of the “Press Club” of UPF Cameroon. The guest speaker at the event was the Chief Executive Officer of Orange Cameroon, Elisabeth Medou Badang.

Topical at the Press Club was the Orange 4G slogan seen in most billboards in the country. Elisabeth Medou Badang said 4G in short, is the name given to the fourth generation of mobile networks, just as the previous generation is called 3G. She said 4G LTE aims at offering users faster and more reliable mobile broadband internet for devices like smart phones, tablets and laptops. While noting that it was innovative to use the occasion to talk about 4G which is available, the CEO of Orange Cameroon said not all people will see the 4G icon on their phone once in an area covered by the 4G network. She noted that only those with phone devices that are compatible to the 4G network will find 4G on their phones. Elisabeth Medou also said their clients need to have a specific SIM card and be at a 4G network zone to be able to benefit from the fourth generation network.

It was also an occasion for Orange Cameroon boss to talk about some of her corporation’s activities that are geared toward improving the economy of the country.  One of such activities include the “Education for All Programme” piloted by Orange Foundation.
