The trial of Polycarpe Abah Abah, the former Director of Taxes and Minister of Finance, at the Yaounde-based Special Criminal Court, SCC, was yesterday, January 18, 2016, adjourned to February 8-9, 2016. Making the ruling after briefly consulting with defence lawyers, the Advocate General and colleagues, the lead judge, Mr. Justice Nyoh Matthias, said it was because the prosecution witness, Akumchi Awa Peter, a former Paymaster General, was absent. Abah Abah is accused by Batock Dikanda Daniel and Peter William Mandio, a former journalist, now parliamentarian, of fraudulently obtaining landed property belonging to a cooperative and the State worth 1.8 billion FCFA. The crime was allegedly committed between 1998 and 2005 when Abah Abah was Director of Taxes.
