He was appointed to the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee by UNAIDS last year.

As a follow-up to his appointment on November 3, 2015, to the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee, STAC, of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS, Prof. François-Xavier Mbopi-Keou has been invited by UNAIDS to attend the next STAC meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from February 1-2, 2016. The appointment was made by UNAIDS Executive Director, Michel Sidibé. The committee meets regularly to provide recommendations and guidance to Sidibé and his team on the 90-90-90 HIV treatment target endorsed by the United Nations in September 2014.

Entitled “Marshalling The Health Workforce: The Needed Reforms To Reach The 90-90-90 Target,” the consultation is co-organised among others by UNAIDS, the Ministry of Health of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, WHO. The renowned Cameroonian university don is of the Department of Microbiology, Haematology, Parasitology and Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaounde I. He is also Head of the Laboratories and Blood Safety Division in Ministry of Public Health.

With over 25 years of experience in Research, Public Health, Microbiology and Virology, Prof. François-Xavier Mbopi-Keou is author of over 100 scientific papers, numerous abstracts and book chapters. A full-fledged Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, he was awarded the first GlaxoSmithKline Elion International Research Award in 2000. Prof. Mbopi-Keou was Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Senior Scientist and Senior Research Fellow at the University College of London, and Fellow of Harvard University.
