They received their keys from the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation on January 20, 2016 in Yaounde.
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, René Emmanuel Sadi, has handed over keys of 20 brand new service ve hicles to Governors of the 10 regions to improve their working conditions. In a brief ceremony, at the esplanade of the Yaounde City Council, yesterday January 20, 2016, each of the Governors received one Peugeot 508 car as ceremonial vehicle and a Four-wheel-drive Toyota VX-V8 Land Cruiser for field missions.
Flanked by the cheerful recipients, René Emmanuel Sadi told the press after the handover that the gesture by President Paul Biya was for them to better ensure the maintenance of order and stability in their regions. “The gesture also shows the importance that the President of the Republic attaches to territorial administration because it is an institution that coordinates all activities of the nation. Regional Governors represent the nation, the Head of State, government and they are the main link between government and the people. So they deserve attention,” argued Minister Sadi.
As the Governors familiarised themselves with their new acquisitions, they were full of gratitude to the Head of State and acknowledged how timely the gesture was. “These vehicles will strengthen our fight against Boko Haram because we will be able to cover the long distances in the region to sensitise the population,” Far North Governor, Midjiyawa Bakary, told Cameroon Tribune. His colleague of the South Region, Felix Nguele Nguele, cheered the Head of State, saying that in the days ahead, he will begin his meet-the-people tour. “Given that the South Region is largely inaccessible, these vehicles will enable me brave any obstacle,” he stated.
The gesture will be extended in the days or weeks ahead to Senior Divisional and Divisional Officers, according to Minister Sadi.
