It was launched by a national forum on cricket at the ENIET campus in Yaounde on Saturday.

The new cricket season was launched on Saturday with a two day national forum on cricket. The forum brought together cricket instructors from about thirty schools from five of the ten regions of Cameroon. According to the president of the Cameroon cricket federation, Victor Agbor-Nso, the forum on the theme: Building grassroots capacities and making cricket a bigger, better game in Cameroon, is aimed at grooming cricket administrators, coaches, umpires, scorers and other stake holders on the detection and development of cricket talents.

Work during the forum comprised both theoretical and practical sessions on the rules of the game. There were three presentations.

The first done by the president of the federation, had to do with the cricket administration in Cameroon, intricacies, the second was on the game of cricket and its compartments done by the Secretary General, Betieh Njoya Jacob. The third was on cricket skills and scoring presented by the national coach, Fongang Ramond and the fourth was on umpiring and scoring done by the cricket development officer, Solefack James. The practical sessions were on batting, bowling, fielding, wicket keeping, umpiring and scoring.

There were also cricket match exhibitions and video watching of certain aspects of the game. At the end of the seminar on Sunday, some cricket equipment was distributed to the participants to encourage the practice of the game in their respective schools and Regions. “It is a very welcomed initiative,” said Lonan Joseph Vubangsi, a participant from Bamenda who said he fell in love with the game of cricket when the British charity, Cricket Without Boundaries visited his institution. He said the knowledge gathered from the seminar will help him better train kids interested in the game in his school.
