Land Ownership, Natural Resources:A Mapping Protocol In The Making

The 12-month project has been launched in Yaounde to propose an acceptable methodology to government.

A 12-month project, financed by the International Land and Forest Tenure Facility, has been launched in Cameroon to propose a mapping protocol for government and stakeholders to help secure the rights to land and natural resources for local communities. The project was launched on January 27, 2016 and will be implemented under the coordination of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development. Other key administrations are involved in the project that will overview and guide the implementation of the test methodology to be carried out by civil society organizations.

The Technical Coordinator of the Project, Timothée Fomete Nembot, said civil society organizations are already on the field, working on the forestry, wildlife and mining sectors. He said the aim is to have a set of protocols that will act as guidelines on undertaking well recognized processes of mapping with key actors and within the framework of land tenure laws in Cameroon. The project conceivers are aiming at a strong commitment from government. Through the project, grants on the enhancement of the country’s land and forest reforms can easily be gotten. Once achieved, local communities are expected to reap the fruits of their natural resources.
