Upper Nkam Division: CERAC Honours Persons With Disabilities

A delegation of the First Lady’s association handed gifts to over 100 disabled people in the division, yesterday, February 22, 2016.

Cameroon’s First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya, has once more testified her love for people living with disabilities through the donation of gifts to a group of such people in Banka-Bafang, in the Upper Nkam Division of the West Region, yesterday, February 22, 2016. On behalf of the First Lady of Cameroon, Founding President of CERAC, Mrs Veronique Nganou Djoumessi, headed a delegation of CERAC ladies with gifts to some 100 persons living with disabilities in Bana, Bafang, Banka, Bakou, Bandja, Banwa, Kekem sub divisions in the region as well as to the Centre to Train Young Blind People and the School of the Deaf and Dumb, CESEH in Bafang.

Mrs Veronique Nganou Djoumessi and her team handed wheelchairs, tricycles, white sticks for the blind, crutches, farm sprays, wheel barrows, eye glasses, food stuffs and cloths amongst other things to different associations of persons living with disabilities. The head of the delegation told the beneficiaries that their presence in Banka was a sign of sympathy and fraternity towards their brothers and sisters living with disabilities and who are at times victims of stigmatisation and exclusion.

Besides the affection CERAC took to Banka, Veronique Nganou Djoumessi noted; “We have also brought tools which will favour their autonomy and reinsertion in the society”. The difficulties persons with disabilities have to access public buildings and public transport is a sign that the Cameroon society is handicapped. That is why the delegation head said much is still to be done by the powers that be and each individual to ensure that Cameroon becomes a lovelier and integrated   society fit for all its citizens as prescribed by the Head of State.

While calling on beneficiaries to make good use of the gifts for their personal wellbeing and that of their family, Veronique Nganou Djoumessi urged all Cameroonians to take into account the wellbeing of disabled persons and their participation in the construction of the country. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Julienne Ngameni said they feel honoured by the goodwill gesture from CERAC and its Founding President for it is a manifestation of the African solidarity as preached by the Head of State. They promised to make good use of the gifts so as to become actors in the development of the country.

Other speakers at the event such as the Mayor of Banka, Bernard Djenga and the Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs, Prosper Jeutcha thanked the First Lady whose priority has always been to meet the needs of vulnerable people. To crown the day, the population thrilled their guests with songs of gratitude as a way to say; “Thank You CERAC”.
