Ngwaya Yvonne, New Queen Of The Mountain

She won the race for the 7th consecutive time, equaling Sarah Etonge’ record of seven wins.

Yvonne Ngwaya has established herself as the uncontested successor to the ‘Queen of the mountain’ as she has been dominating the race in the female category every since the retirement of Sarah Etonge. Her performance is so special because she has won every edition of the race in the feminine category since 2009.

The long distance runner from the North West region attributes her success to hard work and her faith in God. “I thank God for the battle He has fought for me to enable me win. I am very happy, she said after her consecration. She disclosed that during the race she didn’t bother about all what was going on around her but focused on her race. Her little built structure and svelte nature is an added value to her athletic looks sculptured by years of training and hard work.

Despite having been around long enough start thinking of retiring, Ngwaya Yvonne says she is going to continue running for as long as God pleases saying her ambition next year will be to beat Sarah Etonge’s record of seven wins. Ngwaya stands a chance of realising this dream as the mountainous nature of her North West Region, offers a good platform for training. More so, officials of the Cameroon Athletics Federation are planning to establish a training centre for long distance runners in Kumbo.

Should this dream become reality, Ngwaya Yvonne will not only benefit from a good training ground but also expert advice that could enable her not only win for a consecutive 8th time but also broke her time record.
