The crowd pulling event that drew over 20.000 people at the esplanade of the Molyko Omnisport Stadium (under reconstruction), witnessed some innovations this year.

A major attraction were photographic drones that took images for the event. On Friday, 26 February 2016 during the kick-off of official events, there was, for the first time, the singing of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope anthem by the University of Buea choir.

During the libation led by Chief Njombe, a noticeable absence was that of the Paramount Ruler of Buea Chief Endeley who passed on last year and was always present during such events. As the race continues to gather steam under the tutelage of Guinness, some officials of the Athletics Federation have suggested that in future the first prize winner should have FCFA 10 million, second FCFA 7.5 million and third FCFA 5 million respectively.

The presence of Minister Bidoung Mkpatt of Sports and Physical Education, South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, Roving Ambassador, Roger Milla and a host of officials, spurred the athletes, even those who did not make it, to try again in 2017.
