Zimbabwe's Joice Mujuru To Challenge President Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe’s former ally has created the Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party.

President Robert Mugabe’s ruling Zanu-PF party will certainly face hard times in the upcoming elections in 2018 in Zimbabwe as the party’s second-in-command, Joice Mujuru until her sacking in 2014 has formed a vibrant political party. The Zanu-PF has nominated the 92-year-old Mugabe for re-election in 2018.

Joice Mujuru has formed the Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party and is tipped to be the party’s candidate in the 2018 presidential election.  She was sacked from the Zanu-PF in 2014 accused of plotting to oust and kill President Mugabe. Joice Mujuru is the most senior former Zanu-PF leader to form an opposition party

While launching the party in the capital, Harare, Joice Mujuru said, "I'm neither a witch nor an assassin.” She explained that the party was formed because "Zimbabwe is a broken country”. The formation of the ZPF, she said was historic and stated that it would fight the "scourge of corruption" in Zimbabwe, BBC reported. "Some revolutionaries are busy pulling Zimbabwe down," BBC further quote Joice Mujuru as saying.

BBC reported that her supporters ululated as she entered the hall to announce ZPF's launch. The 60-year-old Mujuru was reportedly flanked by other former Zanu-PF heavyweights, including Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo.

Reports say that Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party, the battle to succeed him is raging between his wife Grace Mugabe and the Vice-President  Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was appointed to the post following Ms Mujuru's expulsion. The battle is ignited by Mugabe’s advanced age.
