The Soil Has Never Disappointed Evaristus Atud

At 29, proceeds from his cocoa farm give him approximately FCFA 2.2 million a year.

Mr. Evaristus Atud has been a successful farmer for a very short time.  He bought his cocoa farm in Etam village in Tombel Sub-Division along the Kumba-Tombel-Loum road in 2010. He lives in Metta quarters in Kumba. He told CT that he bought the farm when it was already producing fruits in 2010.

He disclosed that the year 2016 saw him harvesting and producing some 22 bags of cocoa which, according to him, has fetched   FCFA 2.244.000 million a year. He has three permanent workers in his farm and he pays them FCFA 40.000 a month. Evaristius is confident that in 2017, he will be boasting of at least 2 1/2  extra tons because he has attended so many seminars on cocoa farming and now knows how he can come up with high yields in his farm not like before when he knew nothing.

He boasted that he currently masters how to pump his cocoa and with what chemicals, knows how to prune and also how to dry his cocoa well. He said what motivated him in farming was a   farmer in Bai-Kuke whom he was assisting. After, he abandoned the man and decided to go on his own through the encouragement of some of his friends. “My greatest joy in this farm business is that we don’t lack what to eat, my children go to school without any stress. I have also purchased my motorbike which is taking me to my farm on a daily basis.

President Biya's message to us the youths were very fatherly and encouraging. Don’t forget I am also constructing my house now. Soon I will be relieved of the burden of paying enormous rents.  All is thanks to my farming. Let the youths join us in farming; we are ready to help them. "
