Profile: Ajong Godlove, Strives In the Palm Sector

Thanks to farming, he has a Toyota vehicle and employs  5 permanent workers.

A 25 year Ajong Godlove Danyah who hails from Momo Division in the
North West Region and now lives in Kumba, strives in the palm sector. He arrived Kumba  empty handed with  one pair of shoes, two trousers and one shirt. He is today proud to ride in a 4x4 pick-up Toyota: thanks to his involvement in agriculture.

He started by planting palms in a 3 hectare farm he bought in Mambanda village in Kumba III Sub-Division in 2002. Ajong Godlove told CT that he got involved in the farming business when he was advised by one of his parents. Today, he is proud of harvesting or producing over 200 litres of palm oil during the peak season. Cocoa is also another part of the farm but it is still producing just a few pods which can give only about a bag or two.

He has employed 5 permanent and 3 temporal workers who are taking care of the farm. “I believe in agriculture because I have seen the benefits from the soil. I bought my vehicle from the money I made from the farm even though it was a second hand vehicle.  But it helps to transport my palm fruits from the farm,” Ajong disclosed.

He informed CT that he loaned money to buy palm seedlings and cocoa, and
that the farm has helped him to repay this loan. Ajong encourages his friends to join him in farming. He also congratulates the Head of State, President Paul Biya, for his fatherly message to the youths on the eve of 11th February 2016. "The message came to me as a dream because I am already harvesting the fruit of my labour in the farm. Agriculture is something one must invest in, it is our life wire. I got married from the money I made from my farming," he said.
