Boxing Coaches In Training

This is within the framework of a training seminar offered by the world boxing governing body.

As part of the fallouts of Cameroon hosting the Olympic qualifying event for boxing, a training seminar is currently going on at the Toungou hotel in Yaounde for African boxing coaches. According to the Executive director of the African boxing confederation, Joseph Muller, the seminar is reserved for coaches who must have done the level one training and sponsored by their respective federations.

The seminar which began on March 2nd will run up to March 8th and shall comprise both theoretical and practical sessions. According to the AIBA instructor, Terry Edwards, the seminar focuses on all aspects of boxing namely; conditioning, psychology, weight making, rules of boxing as well as the technical and tactical aspects of the sport discipline.

He said the course was instituted by the world boxing confederation, AIBA so as to set standards and the level for the protection and safety of boxers in all countries. The aim is to enable countries to raise the standards of their boxers. He disclosed that the participants have to sit a written and practical exam at the end of the course in order to earn level two certificates for boxing coaches.

Out of the 12 participants, only nine will sit for the examination as the other three are mere observers. The participants come from Tunisia, Egypt, Chad, Central African Republic and of course host Cameroon.
