A civil society organization has reported the Head of State to the High Court of Justice.
The President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita may likely face the High Court of Justice of Mali on high treason charges in connection with bad governance and scandalous management of public money.
The civil society organization, the Popular and Pacific Intervention Block for the Reunification of Mali (BIPREM) filed a complaint against President Keita on March 1. The High Court of Justice of Mali is competent to judge the President of the Republic and ministers upon accusation by the National Assembly on high treason or of crimes or offences committed while exercising their functions.
The President of the block that brings together many associations, Alou Diawara said Malians would want to be clarified concerning the scandals. The second senior official of BIPREM who is the Managing Editor of the newspaper, Mali Demain, Bokary Dicko, RFI cited said their complaint focused on scandals surrounding the purchase of a presidential jet, fake fertilizer and equipping of the army amounting to more than FCFA 21 billion.
He said after those scandals, nobody was arrested, judged nor were the scandals clearly explained. The scandals, the organization stated were committed in the first half of President Keita’s tenure of office. The move by the organization has started receiving support from the Malian political class. The Member of Parliament for Sadi Constituency, Oumar Mariko is cited as saying that he was associated with neither the complaint nor its conception.
He however said, the complaint was necessary as the citizens have been questioning the problematic management of public resources in the country. He said asking for transparency and rigour on resources managed by elected authorities were moves that have to be supported.
