Nobody was in at the time of the disaster, which also worsen traffic congestion in the area.

Inhabitants around and passersby at the Bépanda Reunification Stadium were taken aback a disastrous fire that broke forth from the church auditorium of Dominion Faith Ministries at about 4:30pm Saturday. At the time of the incident nobody was in the church. In order to confront the reality, worshippers who live not far from the church were immediately joined by passersby and other inhabitants to break through the lone iron-clad door into the auditorium and fling furniture, public address system, pulpit, documents, and seats into the busy street that crosses the main entrance into the stadium.

Besides blocking the street, several vehicles, motorcycles and other road such as spectators of the female Under-17 international football match between Cameroon and Egypt got held up in a traffic hurdle that lasted about two hours and only gained fluidity with the intervention of traffic police.

Some worshippers and neighbours to the church said the fire sprang up, surmisaply, from an electrical short circuit. They say the church was closed and there was nobody in at the time of the fire outburst. Of the people who struggled to break in order to salvage some properties of the church, one was seriously wounded on his right hand by glass shards and was rushed to a clinic for medical attention.

Following the intervention of gendarmes from the Ngodi Fire Brigade, the fire was stopped. However, it took several tanks of water and enormous effort to forestall the disaster, which had begun ravaging other structures, including a storey building. The church structure has been razed down, but for the materials that were flung out by the population.
