Buea Council Assists Vulnerable Students

Buea (Fako) - An initiative by Buea Council in Fako Division of the South West Region recently brought joy to 250 students who did some manual work for the municipality.

Each of the 250 students received FCFA 25,000 for the work carried out. The students will be able to help their parents in providing their school needs, thanks to the laudable initiative by Buea Council.

Every year, the Council provides students within its municipality with such job opportunities. The new recruits might had various reasons for taking part, but the Council’s main reason was to help students who will in turn assist their parents in acquiring school needs. According to Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge, the objective was to give students from various institutions the opportunity to get acquainted with the environment in which they live.

It was also to make new friends, help parents in purchasing school needs, provide them work experience and instill the spirit of hard work when they leave school, among others. He further revealed that the opportunity taught the young girls and boys how to better relate in society.

On what she will do with her money, Tayor Juliet, a student of Baptist High School, Great Soppo, Buea, revealed that it will reduce the burden on her parents in buying some of her stationery. Others, who also benefited from the initiative, had different views on how to spend the money like buying Smartphones, clothes, etc.
