FIFA U-17 Female Eliminatory: Young Lionesses Beat Egypt

Cameroon defeat Egypt 2-1 at the Reunification Stadium in Bépanda on Saturday March 12, 2016.

In a hotly contested football match pitting Cameroon and Egypt Saturday, March 12, the Indomitable Little Lionesses of Cameroon out beat their Egyptian counterpart 2-1 at the Douala Reunification Stadium. The match was the last in a series of football matches in the second round of eliminatory ahead of FIFA Under-17 World Cup to hold from September 30 to October 21, 2016.

Prior to kick off, Minister of Sports and Physical Education Bidoung Mkpatt, took time off to personally visit the Indomitable Little Lionesses to extend President Paul Biya’s message of encouragement and support to the national female U-17 team. He said the Head of State is keenly following up their performances and encourages them to keep the national colours high.

About the scores, all goals were registered during the first half of the match. Takounda Alexandra and team captain Soline Djoubi each scored for the Cameroonian side, while Noha Tarek did score to equalize the first goal for her Egyptian team.

Djayap Agrippine Flore, Coach for Union of Douala Under-17, said there were many golden opportunities for the Cameroonian team to have score many goals than just two: “We have missed over seven opportunities to score. Although the Indomitable Lionesses stand the chance to qualify, but it is only a chance per se because there is still a return leg to be played out of the Cameroonian soil.

Egypt needs just a single goal and would return to defend, and if this is the case it may be difficult for our national U-17 team. Note that our team will have to meet the Egyptians on an Egyptian field. From a look of things, the Egyptians came only to defend and to score goals; and may likely strongly offend during the return leg in Egypt. I believe we will do better in the next encounter.”
