Dibombari:300 Improved Wood Cookers For Rural Women

The Council offered the cookers to discourage deforestation and curb smoke-related diseases.

The felling of mangrove for wood in some localities of the Littoral Region is a cause for concern. According to information, 90 per cent of households in Dibombari Subdivision of Moungo Division use wood for cooking and smoking, which is not without health repercussions.

The frequent felling of mangrove does not only lead to deforestation, but also destroys the ecosystem. The smoke emitted from burning wood causes cough and problems to eyes. The destruction of the forest and smoke emitted from burning wood contributes to the destruction of the ecosystem and climate change.

Providing the improved wood cookers to rural women, according to the Council’s authorities, will reduce the use of wood, lessen the effects of smoke on health and preserve the ecosystem. According to the Mayor of Dibombari, Frederic Nguime Ekollo, the gift is their contribution to fight against deforestation and climate change.
