Semences Olympiques Tournament:BAGOOG Emerges Champion

They beat EPTA in the final in the cadet category 1-0 to carry the day.

The 47th session of the youth football tournament dubbed “Semences Olympiques” ended on Friday March 25th at the Fecafoot technical Centre in Odza-Yaounde with BAGOOG football academy emerging champions in the cadet category. They beat EPTA academy 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy. EPTA however emerged victorious in the minims category edging Espoir de Caire in the final in that category 4-3. EPTA who were involved in all four finals of the day lost to Espoir du Caire in the Benjamin category 0-1. EPTA again carried the day in the ‘poussin’ (chicken) category beating Semences Olympiques 1-0 in the final.

According to the organizer of the competition who happens to be the owner of a football academy also called Semences Olympique, the essence of the competition is not winning but enabling youths of the same age group to measure up to one another. He decried the fact that some football academies come to the tournament with the intention to win and therefore field players older than the required age for that category. To stamp out the practice, Pascal Atangana disclosed that as from the next edition of the tournament, only players with valid licenses from Fecafoot or with national identity cards will be allowed to take part in the competition.

He announced ambitions to make the competition go international as from the 50th edition next year. He however said the August session of the tournament will be extended to football training centres across the country. He equally disclosed that Fecafoot was in the process of establishing a national youth championship worthy of its name.
