Ambassador Michael Stephen Hoza handed over the donation in Mbankomo, on the outskirts of Yaounde, on April 5, 2016.
Relations between the United States and Cameroon are growing from strength to strength. The US Embassy in Cameroon on April 5, 2015, donated intervention and instruction equipment to the Multivalent Intervention Unit of the National Gendarmerie (GPIGN) in Mbankomo, about 25 km from Yaounde, in the Mefou and Akono Division of the Centre Region.
The equipment for training and intervention, protection, climbing and efficient assistance materials, among others, was handed over to the Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam by Ambassador Michael Stephen Hoza. The American diplomat said the donation was a symbol of good relations between the two countries. While expressing the admiration of the US for Cameroon’s efforts in safeguarding its territory, he promised that his country will always stand by Cameroon.
His Excellency Michael Stephen assured the National Gendarmerie that the US will continue to offer more equipment, training and proposals on what is needed to bring peace to Cameroon and the Central African sub-region. On his part, Jean Baptiste Bokam said the arrival of equipment was timely as it will help improve the capacity of officers and men to face up to Boko Haram attacks. He called on the officers to make good use of the equipment and to be of good conduct.
