The seminar organised by the federation is aimed at boosting the capacity of coaches in the country.

Within the framework of their annual programme of training of trainers, the tennis federation is currently organising a seminar for tennis coaches at the sports complex of the Presidential Guard in Obili-Yaounde.

According to the national technical director for tennis, Emmanuel Matiafa, the seminar which began yesterday, is aimed at updating the skills of the coaches in matters related to medical care, technical and tactical aspects of the game as well as the psychological, physical, administrative and financial management of tennis athletes. Participants who are drawn from the national technical directorate, national and Regional coaches are equally being drilled on the detection of young talents in tennis.

As to why the drop in the number of competitions organised by the federation, Emmanuel Matiafa said the federation has decided to decentralise its activities and under this new dispensation, the regional leagues organise competitions but with the technical support of the federation. He disclosed that funds to organise the present seminar which will end on April 8^th came from government subventions awarded to federations upon the assumption of office of the new minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt. 

Part of the subventions according to ministerial instructions was therefore devoted to the training of trainers. As to the timing of the training, he said they were just coming from a refresher course for tennis coaches in preparation for the upcoming university games in which many regional coaches took part in Yaounde and therefore ceased the opportunity of their presence in Yaounde to organise the seminar. Coaches from six of the ten regions of Cameroon are taking part in the seminar animated by Dr Bissou Mahop of the Higher Institute of Youth and Sports, INJS-Yaounde.
