Civic Education: Officials Evaluate Path Covered

The Minister of Youths during a meeting in Yaounde called on stakeholders to overcome challenges for more positive results.

About six months after the Prime Minister, Head of Government launched the civic education and national integration campaign, stakeholders involved in its execution last Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Yaounde made an appraisal of the operation in all the ten regions of the country. Seeking ways to overcome challenges that could hamper the campaign was on the menu. Presiding at the meeting was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education (MINJEC), Mounouna Foutsou. He lauded the results registered so far and urged all actors involved to intensify activities for better results.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education stressed that activities within the campaign are all geared towards Cameroonians, particularly youths, taking up civic responsibilities while adopting a new code of conduct for the birth of an exemplary Cameroon. Mounouna Foutsou said since the campaign was launched, much has been done.

Besides, the reactivation  of a committee to constantly reflect on how to make the campaign better, there has been the creation of civic and national integration clubs in all the ten regions, in schools as well as ethic clubs. Information also revealed that stakeholders in the sector have intensified media campaigns on civic education and national integration while using social networks to spread messages on the subject.

Reports from the different Regional Delegates of Youth Affairs and Civic Education unveiled details of the various activities that have taken place in all the nooks and crannies of the country. The creation of ethic clubs for the fight against prostitution and alcohol/drug consumption and the fight against obscene songs / indecent dressing were cited. It was also revealed that the campaign in some areas like the East Region have intensified the fight against early marriages and witchcraft amongst others.

In spite of these positive results, Youth Affairs and Civic Education Regional Delegates decried the lack of money and difficulties to meet inhabitants in enclave areas. Other challenges include the lack of campaign gadgets, audio-visual documentation as well as the non-involvement of certain Sub-divisional officials.

The effort of all stakeholders in the campaign was appreciated by MINJEC boss who handed more education gadgets to help intensify the campaign in all the parts of the country.
