Semi-final matches were played on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Presidential Guard Playground in Yaounde.

As part of preparations for this year’s Labour Day celebration on May 1, 2016, staff of the Ministry of Public Health have organised a football competition among themselves. The “Intra-structure Football Tournament of the Ministry of Public Health,” was in the semi-final stage on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Presidential Guard Playground at Obili, Yaounde.

With theme, “Cohesion and solidarity through social peace and the welfare of health staff,” the day saw two thrilling matches. The Division for Projects and Research lost to Jamot Hospital, Yaounde, by 1 goal to zero. In the second match, the Chantal Biya Foundation beat the General Secretariat by 5 to 4 goals after penalties. Full-time score had stood at one goal on either side. Explaining the raison d’être of the tournament, the Coordinator, Didace Ad’ambomo, said its launch in 2015 was informed by the fact that most staff of the Ministry of Public Health were young or had played football before.

The tournament, he explained, is an avenue for the players to express their love for the game. Ad’ambomo disclosed that the competition has since moved from four teams at inauguration to 10 this year. “The idea of this tournament is likely to continue. We are grateful to management for standing by us. It is all left to us to show that we are up to the task,” the Coordinator explained. The final takes place at the same venue on April 30, 2016, between Jamot Hospital, Yaounde and the Chantal Biya Foundation, Yaounde. It is to be preceded by the third place match between losers of the semi-finals.
