Arts and Culture: New Officials Commissioned, Tasked

The six men and women took up duty on Thursday May 12, 2016, in Yaounde.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, commissioned six officials of his ministry appointed by a presidential decree of April 29, 2016. They were inaugurated alongside administrative assistants appointed by the Minister on May 10, 2016. The commissioning held on Thursday May 12, 2016 in Yaounde.

Narcisse Mouelle Kombi called on the new officials to show proof of loyalty, discipline and respect for ethics in order to better satisfy the needs of users. He used the occasion to remind the officials of the task that lies ahead of them. The commissioned officials are the Director for Development and Promotion of Arts, Armand Maye Abanda, previously North West Regional Delegate of Arts and Culture. He has the task of organising the next National Festival of Arts and Culture, FENAC, slated for November this year after the last edition in 2008 in Maroua.

To the new director of National Archives, Esther Olembe Narcisse, Mouelle Kombi reiterated the need for the institution to be better preserved and modernised, notably through digitalisation. The New Director of National Heritage, Professor Christophe Mbida Mindzie, has to pursue the process of compiling the inventory of Cameroon’s intangible cultural heritage and push through these for the approval of UNESCO heritage sites in the country.

The Director of the National Ensemble, which groups the orchestra, dance and theatre troupes, Joseph Atangana Eloundoudou, is expected to organise a grand Cultural Gala on May 18, 2016, at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Palace; while the Director of the National Museum, Raymond Asongbang Neba’ane, has the duty to facilitate access to the facility and also raise public awareness on museums.

The other officials installed included the new Head of Department for Legal Affairs in the General Secretariat, Professor Celestin Sietchoua Djuitchoko and the Administrative Assistant, Jean Jacob Nyobe, to oversee the Special Support Programme for the Development of a Cultural Policy. The programme was created by the Head of State.
