The major surprise is UMS who emerged out of the blues to top the away leg championship.

Gone are the days when the league leaders were known from day one as Coton Sport exerted her hegemony over the championship. Now the suspense drags on at times until the last blow of the whistle which arouses interest in the championship. As the first phase of the league one championship came to a closer the major surprise was to see UMS on Loum emerged the symbolic away leg championship given that it is a young club with little experience in the elite championship which has been characterized by multiple sacking of coaches. UMS topped the first phase of the championship with 31 points, ahead of heavyweights like Unisport and Union.

Another major surprise has been the poor form manifested by Cosmos of Mbam who qualified for the elite championship in flying colours but who today are languishing at the tail end of the championship. Cosmos is the Benjamin of the group with barely thirteen points recorded after 16 days of play. The case of Apejes is more surprising given that they had once flirted with the top of the championship and now seem to be dropping to the abyss.

If the championship were to end today, then teams like Botafogo, Dragon and Cosmos would have been relegated to the second division after spending only one season in the league one championship. Apejes and Lion Blessé in the 14^th and 15^th positions respectively barely above the relegation line with Lion Blessé surviving because of goal advantage and Apejes barely one point away from the first team below the relegation line.

However, with 16 games to go to the end to the championship, things can change as teams have been known to hop out of the relegation zone to the end of the first phase to threaten to top the league at the end of the second phase.
