Hadiza Mustapha Bids Farewell To Staff, Colleagues

The Nigerian High Commission on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, held a reception for the outgoing High Commissioner.

The outgoing Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroon, Hadiza Mustapha has lauded President Paul Biya, the government and people of Cameroon for welcoming and facilitating her stay in the country since August 19, 2012. Speaking at her residence in Yaounde, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at a farewell reception organised for her, the High Commissioner said no diplomat could be better blessed than her.

During her tour of duty, former Nigerian Head of State, Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari, visited Cameroon; while President Paul Biya was in Nigeria on two occasions this month. The outgoing High Commissioner said her tenure saw the final handover of the Bakassi Peninsular to Cameroon by Nigeria on August 14, 2013 and the stepping up of cooperation in the war against Boko Haram. She also mentioned the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Technical Consultation for the Management of Water Resources of the Benue Basin.

“We have always chosen the path of justice and peace over conflict,” Hadiza Mustapha said, citing President Muhammadu Buhari. She commended colleague diplomats and heads of international organisations for their support to Nigerian refugees and Internally-displaced People in the Far North Region. The diplomat was all praises for the “exemplary” conduct of Nigerians in the country and the Cameroonian media for their “balanced coverage of relations between the two countries.”

Earlier, Piero Pioppo, the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea and Dean of the diplomatic corps in Cameroon, said Hadiza Mustapha made herself appreciated by everyone around her because of her kindheartedness, smile and clearly-articulated views. He said she worked tirelessly in promoting relations between Cameroon and Nigeria. He then offered a gift to the outgoing Nigerian diplomat on behalf of his colleagues. The event was attended among others by Adoum Gargoum, Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Islamic World and Joseph Dion Ngute, Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth.
