National Assembly: Hadiza Mustapha Pays Farewell Courtesy Visit

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroon was received by House Speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril on May 18, 2016.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s outgoing High Commissioner to Cameroon, Her Excellency Hadiza Mustapha has described relations between her country and Cameroon as having grown from cordial to excellent. “It was really a privilege for me to be High Commissioner at this time and to end at this very high note,” she told the press yesterday, May 18, 2016 after a farewell courtesy visit to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.

Hadiza Mustapha ends her stay in Cameroon after two years of diplomatic presence  highlighted by the State visit of Nigerian Head of State, H.E. Muhammadu Buhari to Cameroon on 29-30 July, 2015 and two recent visits to Nigeria by Cameroonian Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya, on 3-4 May and on 14 May, 2016,  respectively. She hailed growing economic cooperation, saying a lot of Nigerian businesses and investments have implanted in Cameroon. More so, she looked forward to “greater things” between both countries which are great powers in their respective sub-regions.

Dwelling on the ongoing fight against the Boko Haram terrorist sect, H.E. Hadiza Mustapha did not fail to praise joint military operations by the armies of both countries fighting under the Multinational Joint Task Force. “We have reduced Boko Haram to very minimal nuisance. What our forces are doing together now is trying to clear them from the Sambisa Forest. Unfortunately, on their way out, they are cowardly resorting to suicide bombing,” the diplomat stated.

Describing the Cameroonian people as kind and hospitable, H.E. Hadiza Mustapha also expressed gratitude to House Speaker Cavaye Yeguie for the contribution by Parliament to the excellent bilateral ties. She hoped that Parliament will give the same support and facilitation to her successor.
