PM Promises Follow-Up Of Projects

The two-day International Economic Conference ended in Yaounde yesterday with hopes of greater attractiveness of Cameroon as an investment destination of choice.

Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang, has reassured over 800 foreign personalities drawn from business, financial and political circles who took part in the two-day Yaounde International Economic Conference from May 17 to 18, 2016 that government will monitor the implementation of projects discussed so that the financing should bear the expected fruits. “The conference has been successful and has shown to the world the numerous facets that make Cameroon a destination of choice for investors,” he said yesterday while closing the conference on behalf of the Head of State, Paul Biya.

He said the conference that held under the theme, “Investing in Cameroon, Land of Opportunities” helped government understand how the country can go about achieving prosperity with emphasis on the private sector. “We will work in earnest to improve the business climate in order for the private sector to serve as the driver of economic growth,” he promised.

The two-day confab was full of fruitful discussions which according to Manuel Barroso, former President of the European Commission and former Prime Minister of Portugal, must be followed up. From the declaration that he read, recommendations from participants for greater attractiveness of the Cameroonian investment destination included the facilitation of the acquisition of travel visas for businessmen, the creation of special economic zones and the place of man at the centre of economic growth, amongst others.

To him expectations expressed by the Head of State during the opening of the conference the previous day, had been met. The same note of satisfaction was expressed by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Louis Paul Motaze who promised greater synergy between the public and private sectors.
