Nine political parties represented in Parliament remarkably took part in the civilian parade during the 44th National Day celebrations at the May 20 Avenue in Yaounde.
It was a day like never before for nine political organisations represented in the Senate and National Assembly that took part in the civilian march-past marking the 44th edition of the National Day on May 20, 2016 in Yaounde under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya. This year’s edition was celebrated on the theme “Defence Forces and Dynamic Forces of the Nation, standing together to combat terrorism and preserve peace and territorial integrity”.
Political parties’ module of the march-past was however placed under the sub-theme “Patriotism and political commitment”, reason why the parties had as accessories, the green-red-yellow flags. Perhaps most remarkable was the passing of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) led by the Deputy Secretary General of the Central Committee, Grégoire Owona.
The party massively mobilised the CPDM, YCPDM and WCPDM wings from all the seven sections of Mfoundi for a colourful and thrilling parade animated by the CPDM Band and songs from party supporters. YCPDM marched with one of their songs referring to their party chairman as “Always android” as they pledged their continuous adherence to the party, its National Chairman and the State institutions he incarnates through banner messages.
Cameroon’s leading opposition political party, the Social Democratic Front (SDF) whose Chairman, John Fru Ndi was at the Presidential Tribune, also put up an impressive performance from supporters drawn from different wards in Yaounde marching past in their traditional green and white colours. Issa Tchiroma’s Cameroon National Salvation Front FSNC, Bouba Bello’s National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP), Dakole Daissala’s Movement for the Defence of the Republic, MDR, the ANDP of Amadou Moustapha, the UPC, CDU and Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) parties all filed past the Presidential Tribune demonstrating patriotism and love for fatherland.
