Over 11,000 Pupils Sit Common Entrance

No examination malpractices were reported in the four divisions of the Littoral Region.

Some 11,915 pupils in all four divisions that make up the Littoral Region wrote the Government Common Entrance Examination on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, in a serene atmosphere. As early as 7 am, pupils and their parents were already at examination centres. Parents who arrived before 7 am had the opportunity to check and crosscheck their children’s examination numbers and writing halls.

In one of the sub-centres at St Louis, Bonaberi, Douala, teachers of some schools distributed acceptance slips to pupils at the entrance of examination halls while other schools did so a day before. According to the Head Teacher of Star Bilingual Nursery and Primary School, Bonaberi, Tebo Agnes, they distributed the acceptance slips at the examination centre for fear that pupils might forget them at home. Pupils that came to the examination centres without their badges and acceptance slips were asked to rush home and collect them, while others who came without writing material, rushed to nearby traders to buy pens, pencils, rulers and erasers.

The Littoral Regional Delegate for Basic Education, Kombou née Mpessa Yvette, after touring Government Bilingual Primary School, GBPS, Joss, GBPS New-Bell Bamileke, GBPS Newtown Aéroport, St Louis, Bonaberi in Wouri Division, and Government Primary School, Bomono Gare in the Moungo Division, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination. “No examination malpractices were reported. Though few pupils came late, I’m satisfied the examination went on in a calm and serene atmosphere.

All the Inspectors and the 526 invigilators did their work extremely well,” she posited. With 46 examination centres and 46 sub-centres, Wouri Division had 24, Moungo 15, while Sanaga-Maritime and Nkam got five and two sub-centres respectively. Meanwhile, the number of candidates rose from 10,711 in 2015 to 11,915.
