Messages For Peace, Security

The military and civilian march past in Yaounde was graced with colourful banners.

In unity and harmony, Cameroonians in all the nooks and crannies in the country, commemorated the 44th edition of the National Day, on May 20th, 2016 with messages that revealed the importance of peace and security to reign in the country. Commemorating under the theme: “Defence Forces and Dynamic Forces of the Nation; standing together to combat terrorism and preserve peace and territorial integrity”, the military and civilian parade that took place at the 20th May Avenue, was marked with messages that called on all Cameroonians to come together and fight insecurity by denouncing all terrorist acts.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               While marching past under the watchful eyes of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya and other national and international dignitaries, school pupils, university students and members of different political parties in the country brandished messages which did not only promote national unity and integrity but also paid tribute to the defence forces.

Pupils of the Basic Education sector at the march past through messages acknowledged the fact that Cameroon is a country of peace and social stability and that there was need to promote values of patriotism, peace, unity and solidarity. They brandished messages that read, “Patriotism, a mark of citizenship, responsibility and dignity” and “No to easy ways and slothfulness, let’s cultivate the sense of efforts”. Students of the Secondary Education level through messages paid tributes to fallen heroes and called for support to the Cameroonian female athletes.

Students also acknowledged the need for civic education as a condition for building an exemplary republic. They equally called for professionalism and infrastructural development of communication and telecommunication for an emerging Cameroon. Political parties that marched past at the 20th May Avenue did not just celebrate peace and security that reign in the country through some of their banners but also brandished messages that showed that they have all rallied behind the defence forces for victory against Boko Haram.
