2016 Common Entrance: Over 90,000 Sit Examination

The Minister Basic Education visited five examination sub-centres in the Mfoundi Division yesterday May 17, 2016.

Thousands of pupils sat for the Government Common Entrance Examination (GCEE) into Form One of secondary schools across the country yesterday May 17, 2016. A total of 91,748 candidates registered for the first certificate examination. In Yaounde, the Minister Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim visited five examination centres in the Mfoundi Division as a way of encouraging the children. The first stop was at the Government Bilingual Primary School GBPS Ekoudou, Briqueterie sub-centre in the Yaounde II Subdivision.

Out of the 647 candidates that registered for the examination, two were absent. Minister Youssouf Hadidja Alim held a brief working session with the examiners to ensure the smooth running of the examination. According to the officials no hitches were recorded and that the examination was going on smoothly. The Minister and her entourage then moved to the Government Bilingual Primary School Bastos in the Yaounde 1 Subdivision.

In this sub- centre 15 out of the 888 candidates that registered for the examination were absent.  Officials said some pupils were late as their names appeared on lists in other centers. In all the centres visited the atmosphere was calm and no major incidents were recorded.

Speaking to journalists, Minister Yioussouf Hadidja Alim expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and that everything was going on normally. She expressed gratitude to the staff for their commitment and effort in making the the examination a success. She said the examination went on normally without any problems and the same held for for the other nine regions of the country.
