Aneva Dance Sport: Huge Turn-out, Massive Participation

Over 50 companies and councils took part in the competition and the Yaounde sports complex was almost full to capacity though entry was payable.

The 5th edition of the Aneva Dance Sport competition turned out to be an outstanding success as a record number of ministerial departments, companies and councils took part and there was a massive attendance of the public to witness the event. Over 250 athletes from about fifty structures took part in the competition in 14 dance disciplines namely; slow fox, bottle dance, jive, bantou boll, quick step, tango, valse vinnoise, samba, cha cha cha, passo doble, rock n roll, salsa, lambada and five dances.

The team from the Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection emerged the overall winner of the competition with four gold medals to their credit. They won gold in the slow fox, quick step, tango and five dances competition. Second on the medal tally sheet was Camrail with two gold medals won in bantou boll and bottle dance. The Bangangte Council emerged third, winning one gold, two silver and one bronze. Other teams like the Oku council, SONARA, the ministry of Tourism, Dschang council, Fokali group and the Ports authority won a gold and a bronze medal each.

According to the representative of the Oku council in the competition, Yang Alfred Yunji, they are satisfied with the performance of their athletes since the level of the competition was very high. “I am very proud said Onguedou Effa Alix of the Bangangte council, “because it is the coronation of hard work and stress. To be gratified at the end is the best thing that could happen to us. I didn’t expect such a result because the level of the competition was very high. Our success is due to our passion and determination, she said.

The event organised on the theme “sport, the pivot of living together in Cameroon”, also witnessed raffle draws organized by Camairco, the main sponsor, with free air tickets up for grab. There were traditional dance groups also to spice the show and a performance from a budding musician. Among the participants were Catranscam, Touboro council, Ngaoundere urban council, Belel council, Dschang, Bankim, Penka Michel and Meyomessala Copuncils.

The companies included Cimencam, the Telecommunications regulatory board, ART and a host of others. The closing ceremony was presided over by the sub director of norms in the ministry of Sports and physical education, Roger Tjom, representing the minister and was accompanied by the representative of the minister of Tourism.
