44 Per cent Of Road Works Executed

The projects seek to ease traffic fluidity while giving the port city a facelift.

It can be said government road construction in the port city of Douala is on a steady progress. In his visit of the different road construction sites in Mambanda, Sodiko, Bangue, Bepanda, Oyack and Youpwe, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou, assessed that overall some 44 percent of work has been executed. Some 50 percent of duration has already been consumed, while the most slow has 30 percent execution rate.

Companies working on the roads complained of insufficient funds, noting that subcontracting companies must be financially empowered to go on with the work. Driven by the fast approaching deadline, Société MAG disbursed its own money to push forward work on its own stretches in anticipation of government disbursement to that effect. It is in line with this that the Minister urged Ets HAB and BUNS in order to do much of the work before the return of persistent rains in Douala.

While noting with satisfaction the level of execution, the Minister who was accompanied by the Government Delegate to the Douala City Council, Fritz Ntone Ntone, among others, urged them to give a clear and accurate report of all difficulties involved for possible solutions.
