Contractors Create National Association

The National Order of Cameroon Contractors, NACOCAM, recently held its first executive bureau meeting in Yaounde with the resolve to make the association gain stronger grounds in all 10 regions of the country.

Meeting in Djeuga Palace Hotel on May 27, 2016, members of the 13-strong executive committee headed by John Akere, took decisions on a wide range of issues aimed at giving the body more visibility. In this respect, the President and his Secretary General, Tcheho Kamgang, were tasked with the responsibility to frequently communicating on activities of the association through various audio-visual as well as print media platforms in the country.

Another key point discussed at the executive meeting was plans vis-a-vis an imminent ceremony to officially install the association’s executive bureau members, which date they agreed, will be fixed following consultation between the President and the Secretary General, together with other relevant stakeholders. On this, members also agreed on a budget to prepare for the event which would be overseen by the Ministries of Public Works and Public Contracts, both titular ministries of the association.

Meanwhile, the President was also handed the task of meeting with other top officials in order to talk about the forthcoming installation ceremony as well as extend to them invitations. The ministries include those of Finance, Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Urban Development and Housing and Communications, etc. While voting a budget for the procurement and equipping of NACOCAM’s main secretariat in Yaounde, the executive committee members also took a decision for members to propose potential candidates to be named as regional representatives of the association in all the regions of the country.

June 20, 2016 was set as deadline for the proposals to be sent in. While thanking members for their active participation during the deliberations, the President also urged them to promote the activities of NACOCAM in the best possible way they can. He equally called on them to always endeavour to meet up with membership demands. NACOCAM is a legalised association of public contractors in Cameroon. The idea of its creation was prompted by the myriad of nail-biting experiences that continue to plague the public contracts sector in the country. The association aims, amongst many other goals, to help government chart a better path to a public contracts sector void of corruption, administrative bottlenecks and other government red tape.
