MPs Advocate For Land Policy Reforms

A committee of the Network for the Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa met yesterday in Yaounde to finalise the proposed document.

The Parliamentary Network for the Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa (REPAR) is lobbying government to revise the current land policy. A working group created by the network during the document validation workshop last year, met yesterday at the 7th floor of the National Assembly to finalise the recommendations of the MPs for the revision of the land policy in Cameroon.

According to the chair of the think-tank group, Hon. Gaston Komba, land is an important socio-economic and cultural factor whose accessibility and the protection of community’ right to ownership must be guaranteed. Their mission, he stated, is to lobby and accelerate the process for the revision of the policy. “Our hope like Members of Parliament is to ensure that government improves the land policy of our country”, Hon Komba said.

Tuesday’s consultation meeting with some technical partners was therefore to identify the best approach by members of the working group to push forward the proposals contained in the document as well as strategies, follow-up and evaluation mechanisms. The MPs also drew up action plans in view of meeting the various authorities of the ministerial departments concerned with the land policy.
